Q
Is Cable Deck Railing Safe?
A
In terms of safety, while cable railings provide a secure barrier, there are code requirements that they must meet to ensure they are safe and effective on deck.
For instance, the cables must be spaced correctly (usually no more than 4″ apart, or even closer at 3″ in some states) to prevent small children or pets from slipping through.
Moreover, the cable railing system must be built to specific heights, and the cables must be adequately tensioned. This prevents them from becoming climbable, which can be particularly dangerous for children.
